Impact of Haphazard Urban Planning on Stray Dogs
The results of haphazard urban planning can be significant for stray animals in several ways without us ever being aware of them.
LACK OF WATER AND FOOD
Unplanned cities destroy or alter the natural habitats of resident animals, leaving them with fewer places to live and find food/water. Consequently, they may migrate in search of shelter, food and water.
ROAD ACCIDENTS
Poorly planned cities may not provide easy access to food and water for stray dogs. Stray dogs in this situation become malnourished and dehydrated. A poorly planned city will have more traffic on its roads. This can put stray dogs at greater risk of being hit by cars, which can lead to severe injuries or even death.
DISEASES
When urban planning is haphazard, it can lead to poor sanitation conditions, making it easier for diseases to spread. This can also increase the number of diseased and sick stray dogs on the streets.
POOR WELFARE OF STRAYS
When cities aren’t well planned, there may not be enough stray animal population management programs. Without adequate funding and government support, animal shelters and other animal welfare organisations may not have the resources to manage the stray dog population effectively.
PROPER URBAN PLANNING IS CRITICAL
Sloppy urban planning can impact the lives of stray dogs and other stray animals and birds. It is important to consider animal welfare when planning and designing cities so that these animals/birds can live in a safe and healthy environment too allowing for the ecological balance to stay intact.
