28th September 2023 – World Rabies Day Events by CCC
World Rabies Day is an annual global awareness campaign observed on 28th Sept that aims to educate people about the prevention and control of rabies. The day is focused on raising awareness about the impact of rabies on humans and animals, promoting vaccination programs, and providing information on how to prevent the spread of the disease. 28 September also marks the death anniversary of Louis Pasteur, the French chemist and microbiologist, who developed the first rabies vaccine.
This year’s World Rabies Day theme is: “All for 1, One Health for all”. The world has the vaccines, medicines, tools, and technologies to break the cycle of one of the oldest diseases. Together we can eliminate rabies. Leaving no one behind.
It also emphasizes the importance of equality, and strengthening overall health systems by ensuring that One Health is not for a select few but rather should be available to everyone.
Hence, it’s important to acknowledge and promote this day for several reasons:
Raising Awareness: Create an accessible platform to educate communities about the risks associated with rabies, its transmission, and the importance of vaccination for both animals and humans.
Promoting Vaccination: Encourage responsible pet ownership by promoting the vaccination of dogs, which are the primary source of human rabies cases.
Supporting Veterinary Healthcare: It emphasizes the need for accessible and affordable veterinary services, especially in regions where rabies is endemic.
Advocating for Public Health: World Rabies Day reinforces the importance of timely post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for individuals bitten by potentially rabid animals.
CCC wholeheartedly supports the United Against Rabies collaboration formed by WHO, FAO, OIE and GARC and is working at the grass root levels in Pune and PCMC areas to spread awareness about rabies prevention. CCC has launched various anti rabies initiatives to reach out and educate people across domains.
CCC has launched zero by thirty free course for children and adults to help everyone understand the importance of anti-rabies vaccines in rabies prevention and how to prevent dog bites. To request for this Zero by Thirty training program in school, college, office or hospital they can write to zerobythirty@caninecontrolandcare.org.

By participating in the various events and activities on this day, we contribute to a safer, healthier world for all.
